Recover and Prevent Damaged Curly Hair

Even though we’re in the thick of winter right now, spring and SUMMER will be here before you know it.For a lot of my curly girls that means a lot more natural curl days ahead. Lets take the time now to recover those damaged curls and prevent further damage so we can live our best curly lives in a few short months.

Trim

Dead ends on curls won’t have the same curl pattern as everything else so they’ll end up looking stringy. Trimming those dead ends also helps with reducing tangles and breakage as well as maintaining the shape and definition of your hair.

Moisturize

Moisturizing curly hair is crucial for keeping it healthy, soft, and manageable. Curly hair trends to be drier than straight hair because the natural oils produced by the scalp have a harder time moving down the twists and turns of the hair shaft. Well moisturized hair reduces frizz, defines curls and prevents breakage. Make sure you’re remoisturizing your ends between shampoos with some type of oil, such as CHI Silk infusion. It’s one of my favorite serums because is goes into the hair moisturizing it from the inside out, and not just coating it with oil.

Protect

Using a silk or satin pillowcase, reduces friction and prevents hair, breakage and frizz. These materials also help retain moisture in the hair. if you’re going to do heat styling, make sure to use a good heat protectant. Also, if you’re going to be in the sun a lot, make sure to use some type of UV protection. The suns rays aren’t just harmful to our skin, they can be just as harmful as some chemicals to our hair, causing lightening and dryness. UV hair protection can be as simple as a hat or extra leave in conditioner on exposed areas.

Using these 3 tips will have your curls ready for natural season and have you ready to live your best curly life!
