What to Eat for Healthy Hair

Did you know that the foods you eat (or don’t eat) have an effect not just on your overall health but also your hair health? Eating a balance diet rich in nutrients is essential for promoting healthy hair growth.

1- Protein: Protein is the essential building blocks of hair. Hair is made up of keratin which is a type of protein. A few protein rich foods are lean meats, eggs, fish, poultry, seeds and nuts.

2- Biotin: Vitamin B7 also known as Biotin is essential for hair growth. Biotin is easily found in a supplement form but is also found in foods such as whole grains, seeds, nuts, avocado and sweet potatoes.

3- Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Omega 3 fatty acids nourish not only the hair but the scalp as well. You have to have a heathy scalp to have healthy hair growth. Some sources of Omega Fatty Acids are flaxseeds, fatty fish, chia seeds, and hemp seeds.

4-Vitamin E: Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect hair follicles from damage. Almonds, sunflower seeds, spinach, olive oil and avocado are all rich in vitamin E.

5-Zinc: Zinc helps with tissue growth and repair. A zinc deficiency can lead to hair loss. You should include zinc-rich foods into your diet such as oysters, chick peas, pumpkin seeds, and lamb.

6- Vitamin C: Vitamin C is essential for collagen production which strengthens the hair shaft. Citrus, strawberries and broccoli are rich in Vitamin C.

Incorporating a wide variety of nutrient rich foods while staying hydrated can help support healthy hair growth.
